Professional Statement
Hello, world! My name is David J. Kim. I currently work full-time as a Solutions Architect for Akamai, and have previously worked in audit and compliance as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) for LMI. I was inspired to write and publish original, free educational cybersecurity content by John Hammond. This blog shares my perspective on various cybersecurity topics and takeaways from learning hands-on skills such as web application security testing using Burp Suite.
I am passionate about safeguarding the personal data both of individual citizens and the companies that I represent. I enjoy learning about constantly evolving new technologies and applying my knowledge to solve dynamic and complex problems.
Education and Certifications
I graduated with a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. I am certified and have passed examinations for the Security+, GSEC, GCIH and GWAPT. These certifications were excellent resources to jump-start any academic journey into computer systems, the OSI networking model, and fundamental internet protocols such as HTTP/DNS. However, it has become obvious to me that having hands-on skills (and the ability to share knowledge with others in the most understandable manner possible) is more important than purely academic knowledge.
To me, the value of knowledge in cybersecurity is intrinsically linked to sharing that information with other people. Given the difficulty of staying up-to-date on cybersecurity issues, it is essential to foster a culture of sharing and growth than warehousing information to oneself.
